ELLEN MAGURIE MICHAUD

Groton, CT & Fort Fairfield - Ellen Maguire Michaud, born in Van Buren, Maine in 1931 passed away peacefully on February 17, 2021. Having lived in Fort Fairfield in her youth, she then graduated in 1952 from Sisters Hospital School of Nursing in Waterville, ME; became a Registered Nurse, and started her career in Louisiana. Through mutual relatives, she met her soon to be husband, John (Jackie) Michaud, Airforce Test Pilot. Eventually, they resided in Lewiston, ME where Ellen became an Operating Room Nurse at St. Mary’s Hospital. Ellen was active in the Women’s Sodality at St. Patrick’s church where family friend, Father Haggerty presided over the parish. In his elder years, she took care of him in the hospital. Ellen was a seamstress/dressmaker, gardener, rug maker, basket weaver, and a tireless renovator of the families 1806 home. She enjoyed canoeing, hiking, and outings to Maine’s beaches and Sebago Lake with family and friends. Always studious, in 1975 she graduated Magnum cum Laude from the University of Maine. A consummate caregiver, Ellen tended to her parents later in life when they moved in with the family. Initially, she helped her mother recover from a stroke, and then continued to care for her for 25 years. Ellen leaves behind her children: Rose, Paula and David; her sister Peggy Johnson of Presque Isle, and brother Paul Maguire of Caribou, ME. She is pre-deceased by her husband Jackie Michaud, her father, Edward Maguire (42 yrs. Immigration Inspector/Customs Officer, Fort Fairfield, ME), mother, Simmone and brother John Maguire. Extended family relatives reside in New England, Louisiana and California. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to Fairview Odd Fellows Home, 235 Lestertown Road, Groton, CT 06340 a Nonprofit care facility that took care of Ellen for the past 3 years. www.fairviewct.org.
