ARTHUR C. “BLACKIE” MACDOUGAL

 

Fort Fairfield – Arthur C. “Blackie” MacDougal, 70, husband of Arlene (Sturgeon) MacDougal, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, March 5, 2016 at his Fort Fairfield home, following a brief illness. He was born April 6, 1945 in Mitchel Field, New York, the son of Arthur W. and Mary “Kay” (Goodine) MacDougal. Blackie attended Fort Fairfield schools and was married to Arlene Sturgeon on June 27, 1970. He had been employed in the potato farming industry and the construction industry for many years for several companies including Di Cenzo Construction in Calais and H.E. Sargent, Inc. He also was employed by the Town of Fort Fairfield, for over 20 years, most recently as a heavy equipment operator, prior to his retirement. He had been a member of the Fort Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Fort Fairfield ATV Club. Blackie was an avid sportsman and loved to fish, hunt and camp. He will be remembered for his hard work ethic and as a person who went out of his way to help anyone in need. In addition to his parents, Mr. MacDougal was predeceased by one brother, David MacDougal; one sister-in-law, Pauline MacDougal; one brother-in-law, Ralph Morris. He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Arlene of Fort Fairfield; one daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Roger York of Fort Fairfield; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Doreen MacDougal, Eugene MacDougal, all of Fort Fairfield; Thomas and Gail MacDougal of Limestone; one sister, Linda R. Morris of Marysville, CA; three grandchildren, Mindy York, Roger York III and Macy York, all of Fort Fairfield. He also leaves behind a brother-in-law, Roy Sturgeon; and a sister-in-law, Debbie MacDougal, both of Fort Fairfield; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call Wednesday March 9, 2016 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. . Spring interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield.
