ROGER L. LILLY

Fort Fairfield – Roger L. Lilly, 76, husband of the late Carolyn D. (Bubar) Lilly, passed away Wednesday evening, June 5, 2019 at Presque Isle healthcare facility, following a brief illness. He was born August 4, 1942 in Whitby, West Virginia, the son of Hurcial C. and Jewell (Meadows) Lilly.  He was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Loring Air Force Base, Limestone. He was married to Carolyn D. Bubar on September 28, 1968. Roger was a local country music icon having performed at many area events and locations including the Plymouth Hotel in Fort Fairfield and the Maine Potato Blossom Festival. He enjoyed many years playing music with his bands, “Roger Lilly and the Buccaneers” and “Roger Lilly and the Bluebirds”, with his music touching generations of listeners. In the 1980’s, Roger made his way to Nashville where he recorded several songs including “Gonna Find Me A Bluebird” and “Tonight We’ll Say Goodbye” which he performed with the Jordanaires. He also was employed for many years with the Fort Fairfield Housing Authority. In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn; one sister, Judy Wilson. He is survived by his son, Darin L. C. Lilly and his companion, Jesika, both of Van Buren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Mason and Debbie Lilly of Shady Springs, West Virginia, Sydney Lilly of Beckley, West Virginia, Freddy and Sue Lilly of Shady Springs, West Virginia; three sisters, Susan Szoke of Princeton, West Virginia, Rosanna Lilly, Lois Johnson and her husband, Chris all of Hollywood, Florida; three grandchildren, Chance Lilly of Van Buren, Holden Lilly of Madawaska, Karigan Robinson of Van Buren; one great grandchild, Ollie Lilly of Van Buren; several nieces and nephews.   Friends called Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where the funeral service was conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Mark Babin officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the funeral service. Interment with military honors will be conducted at the Northern Maine Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Caribou at a later date.
