DANIEL L. DEFORGE

Caribou—Daniel L. Deforge, 65 of Caribou passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday August 25, 2021 at his home in Caribou.  Dan was born August 13, 1956 in Lewiston and then moved to Van Buren with his parents until he was about 3 years old, at which point they moved back to Greene, Maine where he grew up and graduated high school.   In 2018 he and his wife Marie L. Deforge moved to Caribou, as he had "always felt a draw to the county" but didn't know until several years ago about his time as a youngster here. Dan was best known for his music.  He was an avid Bass Player, some say one of the best in the State.  He played with many different bands of different genres but his favorite was playing blues and southern rock country and was part of hosting numerous openmike nights in southern midcoast Maine.  He also made it his mission to seek out truth with endless research and enjoyed talking to others about our freedoms, the truth of what goes in our world and was a contributing writer for the Fort Fairfield Journal in the last couple of years.  Most recently he was a bus driver for the New Sweden school system and teaching others about Natural Law.  He is survived by wife Marie; son Ian Deforge and his family and son Alex Deforge and his family both of Augusta, ME; sister Patricia Deforge Dubovy and her husband of Adkins, Texas and niece in Chelsea, ME, step daughter and step son both of Brunswick, ME.  Two grandaughters, Sailor and Emma Deforge of Augusta and two grandsons Emmit and Lincoln Smith of Brunswick.  A stone will be provided by the US Military at the Augusta Veterans Cemetery for his service in the US Navy from July 1975 until he was honorably discharged August 1977.  Arrangements with the VA cemetery and his remains were handled by Mockler Funeral Home in Caribou.
