RITA E. BUTLER

BENNINGTON, Vermont - Rita E. Butler 91 a former resident of North Bennington and Caribou, Maine passed away peacefully on Thursday July 30, 2020 at Rivers Edge Community Care Home in Bennington. Rita was one of 14 children born to Cyrus and Temperence (Green) Davenport, she was born in Fort Fairfield, Maine on January 22, 1929. She grew up in Fort Fairfield where she attended local schools. Maine is well known for its potato production and Rita had worked in the potato fields and potato factories . Rita enjoyed crafts, she especially enjoyed crocheting in her leisure time and made sure every one of her many grandchildren had their own blanket personally crafted by her.  She was first married to Lawrence McEwen, following his passing she married Kenneth Butler who also predeceased her.  She relocated to North Bennington from Caribou to be closer to her family as she aged.   She leaves her daughters Cheryl Paradis of Mickelton, NJ, Gail Davis of North Bennington and Bridget LaPointe of Bennington, her sons Larry McEwen of Wallingford, CT , brothers Fred and Cyrus (Pete) and sisters Carole, Margaret, Evalene and Shirlene, many grandchildren , great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband’s she was predeceased by a son Rick McEwen, brothers John, Jerome, Vernon, Frank and Floyd and  sisters Greta and Marilyn.  In honoring Rita’s wishes there were no formal funeral service.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Hanson Walbridge and Shea Funeral Home, 213 West Main Street in Bennington.  To send personal condolences to the family visit www.sheafuneralhomes.com
