ELLEN LOUISE BEEMAN

1924-2020

Ellen (Philbrick) Beeman, 96, passed away on April 22nd at Royal Cape Cod Nursing in Buzzards Bay. She was born on Jan 13th 1924 in Fort Fairfield, Maine and was the daughter of Gertrude A. Philbrick and Percy O. Philbrick. She was one of thirteen siblings who grew up on the farm and helped work the family potato business. She graduated from Fort Fairfield High School and married Chandler J. Beeman of St. Albans, VT. Ellen lived most of her life in Springfield, MA after moving from Windsor, VT in 1956. She raised her family and made many friends.  She was predeceased by her parents, eleven of her siblings, her daughter Cheryl J. Hicks, and her son Brent P. Davis. She is survived by her daughter Becky J. Sheffer and her husband Randy of Clancy, MT; Sons Scott J Beeman and wife Susan of Wilbraham, MA, Gregory J. Beeman and his wife Melissa of Fairfax, VT, and Todd R. Beeman and his wife Tracy of Springfield, MA. She also leaves seventeen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren whom she cherished and who all knew her as “Gram”. Ellen was a member of the Wachogue Congregational Church for many years. She was a talented knitter, typist, and gardener. However, her greatest talent was listening to people and talking about their problems. Her kitchen table was the scene of laughter and tears and stories galore from family, friends, and friends of friends. Her heart was always “back on the farm” with her mom and dad. She loved going up to visit while her kids were growing up. She loved the country and any excuse to travel even if it was for strawberry picking in Feeding Hills, visiting family in Vermont or New Hampshire or to the beach. She loved the sun, and she loved being a part of her kid’s families and helping out. As Ellen’s illness progressed, she was helped by many family and friends, but especially Todd, Tracy, and “The Girls”. She never lost her charming smile and laugh that she would show as people called out to her “Gram, how are you?” Her love will and has been missed. Her stories will as well. The family wishes to thank all of the many caregivers at Royal Cape Cod Nursing in Buzzards Bay. Services for Ellen will be held privately by her family at this time. A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held at a later date when we can all be together again. Donations in her memory may be made to your local food bank or the Alzheimer’s Association.
