SHIRLEY TOWNSLEY BARTLETT

Fort Fairfield - Shirley Bartlett, passed away peacefully on April 7th, 2021 at the Presque Isle Nursing Home at the age of 90. Shirley was born on June 16th, 1930 in Plaster Rock, NB, Canada, the eldest child of James and Elizabeth (Mitton) Townsley.  Shirley and her husband Delmar moved to Connecticut in 1956 where they made their home for 36 years and raised their daughter. Retiring in 1991 they moved back to Fort Fairfield. Shirley enjoyed family and being around friends. She worked several years at US Rubber in Naugatuck, CT. and Unisys of Waterbury, CT. After moving back to Maine she worked at the Aroostook Agency on Aging which she enjoyed immensely. She belonged to the Red Hat Society, Keenagers and VFW Post 6187 Ladies Auxiliary in Fort Fairfield. She enjoyed bowling, dancing and socializing at the Gathering and Sunday music at the Mall. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fort Fairfield.  She was predeceased by her parents; husband, Delmar in 2002; her brother, James Townsley; sisters, Jessie Brayall Henderson, Martha Flint and Marjorie Meyer.  She leaves behind her daughter, Debra Pelkey and her husband Donald of Perth Andover, NB; two brothers, Thomas Townsley and his wife Millie of St Catherines, Ontario, and Charles Townsley and his wife Maxine of Upper Kent, NB; sisters, Elaine Terrier of Perth Andover, NB, Patricia Haladay and her husband Fred of Manchester, NH; brothers-in-law, Michael Flint of Florida, and Klaas Meyer of Ontario; sister-in-law, Margaret Townsley of Stoney Creek, Ontario; along with several nieces and nephews.  The family would like to thank the whole staff at the Presque Isle Rehab and Nursing Center for the wonderful care they provided Shirley during her 7 month stay. Her comment every day was "they sure treat you good here". She leaves behind her special friends, Cecelia, Peggy and Betty Drake who phoned to check up with her often.  In keeping with Shirley's wishes, there will be no viewing or funeral services. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield, for family and friends at a later date.  Donations in her memory may be made to any animal associated shelter or St. Paul's Episcopal Church Memorial Fund, c/o Gloria Towle, 645 Houlton Road, Easton, Maine 04740.
