Maine Democrats Seek to Expand
Taxpayer-Funded Abortion Law
Would Use State’s MaineCare funds to pay for the killing of unborn babies

The Democrat party, which prides itself as the “Pro-Death” party, is pushing to pay for abortions in Maine using the State’s MaineCare funds when Medicaid doesn’t approve the bill.
Representative Lois Reckitt (D-South Portland) has introduced LD 20 in the Maine House to provide coverage for abortion services for MaineCare members. It has currently received nine other Democrat co-sponsors.
The summary of her bill states, “This bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to provide coverage to a MaineCare member for legal abortion services. The bill provides that abortion services that are not approved Medicaid services must be funded by the State. The bill also directs the Department of Health and Human Services to adopt rules no later than March 1, 2020.”
By promoting the death of unborn babies, the Democrat party has placed itself in the awkward position of killing babies that could grow up and most likely be Democrat voters, based upon the demographic of the families that would be utilizing those MaineCare services.
If passed into law, this would place taxpayers in Maine who do not believe abortion should be legal, either for religious or philosophical reasons, in the untenable position of being forced to contribute a portion of their tax money to support those nefarious activities.
Over 100 years ago, things were different in Maine. The act of providing an abortion for anything other than to save a mother’s life, was a crime punishable by up to five years in prison or a fine of up to $1,000 (see Laws of Maine 1916, Chap. 126 Sec. 9, p. 1483). In 1916 money, a $1,000 fine would be equivalent to a $75,000 fine in today’s woefully devalued Federal Reserve Note currency.
