Viral Spread in Exhaled Breath is Low, Face Mask Use Inconclusive, Study Finds

Face masks have been the knee-jerk reaction by governments around the world to “stop the spread” of COVID-19.  Left Wing television “news” stations continually air video clips of people sneezing into Petri dishes to “prove” the effectiveness of face masks.  However, a scientific study published in May, 2020 showed face mask results are dubious at best and viral spread in exhaled breath was statistically insignificant.

The Brief Communication, entitled “Respiratory Virus Shedding in Exhaled Breath and Efficacy of Face Masks1 published in the journal Nature Medicine stated of face masks, “most of the existing evidence on the filtering efficacy of face masks and respirators comes from in vitro [laboratory] experiments with nonbiological particles, which may not be generalizable to respiratory virus droplets.  There is little information on the efficacy of face masks in filtering respiratory viruses and reducing viral release from an individual with respiratory infection.”

The study also stated of viral release in exhaled breath, “Among the samples collected without a face mask, we found that the majority of participants with influenza virus and coronavirus infection did not shed detectable virus in respiratory droplets or aerosols...For those who did shed virus in respiratory droplets and aerosols, viral load in both tended to be low.”

This study, which has been available online for nearly a year has been lost on the establishment Left Wing News media and ignored by leftist governors, such as Maine’s Democrat governor, Janet “Big Sister” Mills because it refutes their fanatical religious belief in face masks.  Face masks are more an iconic visual symbol that show the government is “doing something” to stop an excessively over-hyped virus than they are legitimate medical devices being used effectively to stop the spread of that virus - a virus that is now known to have the fatality rate similar to seasonal flu.
