IRENE M. RAMO

Fort Fairfield – Irene M. Ramo, 94, passed away Sunday morning, September 20, 2015 at a Caribou nursing facility. She was born October 4, 1920 in Eagle Lake, the daughter of Fred and Edith (Gagnon) Smart. She attended school in Eagle Lake and moved to Fort Fairfield at 16 years of age. She was married to John L. Flannery on May 27, 1939 until his tragic death in a local airplane accident in 1947. She later married Frank Herbert Ramo on April 30, 1949 and they enjoyed many happy years together until his passing on May 22, 1995. Irene was a communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield for many years. She also was a member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187 Ladies Auxiliary and the Fort Fairfield Daughters of Isabella Santa Maria Circle Number 427. She also had been a member of the Fort Fairfield Bridge Club, the Sunshine Club, and the Scat Club. Irene was also a wonderful cook, and her family fondly remembers many dinners hosted at Irene’s home. In addition to her parents and husbands, Mrs. Ramo was predeceased by one daughter, Glennis G. Watson; one granddaughter, Twyla Watson; 4 brothers, Rene, Louis, Claude and Armel Smart. She is survived by one son, John T. Flannery and his fiancé Jean M. Shaw of Caribou and Williamsburg, VA; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon J. and Richard W. Ireland of Fort Fairfield; one brother, Alvin Smart of Watertown, CT; three sisters and brother-in-law, Cora Roucoulet of Palm Bay, FL, Cecile Plawecki of Bristol, CT, Evelyn and Robert Van Buren of Watertown, CT; eight grandchildren, Crystal Mihansky of Williamsburg, VA, Debra Berndt of Exeter, NH, Julie Watson Boehme of Brunswick, Charles Watson of Caribou, Lisa St. Pierre of Caswell, Todd Ireland of Fort Fairfield, Troy Ireland of Gilbert, AZ, Heather Sinclair of New Gloucester; twelve great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends called Wednesday, September 23, 2015 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main Street, Fort Fairfield with Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie celebrant. Interment followed at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Charter Number 1753, 260 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, immediately following the interment.
