LOIS W. MURPHY

 

Fort Fairfield – Lois W. Murphy, 88, wife of Charles B. Murphy, passed away Saturday afternoon, May 30, 2015 at her Fort Fairfield home, following an extended illness. She was born September 22, 1926 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Robert I. Sr. and Grace (McCarthy) Waldron. She was a graduated of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1945 and as a young lady worked as an office assistance in Southwest Harbor. She was married to Charles B. Murphy on June 20, 1955 and had been a lifelong communicant of the Parish of the Precious Blood, St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield. Lois was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Santa Maria Circle Number 427, Fort Fairfield, and the Fort Fairfield Snowmobile Club for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge and was an accomplished painter and artist with many of her painting gracing the homes of family and friends. Lois also greatly enjoyed sharing lobster with her family and friends during her visits to Southwest Harbor. She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by an infant daughter, Jennifer; two brothers, Charles and Robert Waldron Jr.; one sister, Helen Waldron. She is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Charles B. Murphy of Fort Fairfield; four sons, George Smith Jr. and his wife Vicki of Westfield, Robert “Bob” Smith of Presque Isle, Charles “Pudgy” Smith and his companion Sonia O’Neal of Fort Fairfield, Samuel “Sam” Murphy and his companion Cindy Owens of Presque Isle; four grandchildren, Billy Clark of Stockholm, Robert “Bobby” Smith II of Presque Isle, Jeremiah Smith and his wife Tiffany of Presque Isle, Nicole Picori and her husband John of Ballston Lake, NY; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She also will be missed by her dog “Little Joe”. Friends may call Tuesday evening June 2, 2015 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday June 3, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Jean-Paul Labrie officiating. Interment will follow at the St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may contribute in memory of Mrs. Murphy to C-A-N-C-E-R, P.O. Box 811, Presque Isle, Maine 04769. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
