CORA (DOAK) CURTIS

FORT FAIRFIELD—Cora (Doak) Curtis, 78, wife of Karl Curtis, passed away, following an extended illness, surrounded by her loving family, at the Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle, Maine.  She was born on 12/12/39 in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of James and Bernice Wasson Doak.  She was a graduate of Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1958.  She was married to her devoted husband, Karl in 1995.  Cora enjoyed playing cards and games and spending time with friends and family.  She volunteered much of her time to the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187 in Fort Fairfield, where she was a tireless worker.  She was admired for her work ethic and was always available to lend a hand to anyone in need.  She loved to cook and was especially good at it.  She retired from the Maine State Superior Court, under Judge Paul Pearson, in Caribou, Maine, where she served as Jury Officer for 20 years.  She also worked for the Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff for 23 years.  She lived her retirement years with her husband, Karl at Fields Lane in Fort Fairfield.  She was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Fort Fairfield.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, sister-in-law, and aunt.  She will be sadly missed by everyone who knew her.  She loved her family above everything else.  She especially loved spending time with her only grandchild, Madison Ward, who was the light of her life.  Cora was predeceased by her mother, Bernice (Wasson) Todd of Fort Fairfield, one sister, Marilyn (Doak) Clark of Carlingford, New Brunswick, Canada, and her father, James Doak of Bristol, Connecticut, one niece, Kimberly Milliard of Fort Fairfield, and one nephew, Justin Clark of Perth Andover, NB.  She is survived by her husband of 22 years, Karl Curtis, two sons, Randy Ward and his wife Peggy (Butler) Ward, Darrin Ward, and her granddaughter, Madison, all from Presque Isle, two brothers, Dale Armstrong and his wife Bird (Crouse) Armstrong and David and his wife Sally Schwartz Armstrong all from Fort Fairfield, one brother-in-law, Dennis Clark of Carlingford, New Brunswick, Canada, and numerous nieces and nephews.  A funeral service will be conducted at the Fort Fairfield Wesleyan Church January 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m..  A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187 on Presque Isle Street in Fort Fairfield.  Internment will take place at the VA cemetery in Caribou, Maine Those who wish may contribute in memory of Cora to a charity of their choice.
