CLARENCE R. “CHUB” CLARK

Fort Fairfield – Clarence R. “Chub” Clark, 92, husband of Hilda (Hall) Clark, passed away Thursday evening, May 14, 2015 at a Presque Isle nursing facility, following an extended illness. He was born July 11, 1922 in Millinocket, the son of Clarence M. and Beatrice (Bishop) Clark. He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1939 and received a Bachelor Degree from Tuffs University of Medford, MA and a Master Degree from the University of Maine at Orono. He was for 27 years a teacher with the Fort Fairfield school system where he was a coach for the ski team, as well as other sports. He was a member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187 of Fort Fairfield, past president of the AVCC and he was an active member of the Democratic Party, where he served as chief of staff for Congressman and Senator William Hathaway. Mr. Clark was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one daughter Jean Clark in 1976. Chub is survived by his wife Hilda Clark; two daughters, Ellen Dorsey and her husband Robert, Andrea Girvan and her husband Larry, all of Fort Fairfield; one brother, Ralph Clark and his wife Joanne of Gardiner; one sister Lt. Col. (Ret.) Ruth Clark of Rotonda West, FL; two grandsons, Garnet Girvan of Qujing, China and Ian Girvan of Orono. The Clark family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Cross Winds and the NMMC, both of Fort Kent and the Presque Isle Nursing Home for their excellent care. Friends may call Wednesday, May 20, 2015 from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield where a service to Celebrate the Life of Mr. Clark will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post Number 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield.
