MARIE BEAN ASHBY

Fort Fairfield - Marie Bean Ashby, 88, of Fort Fairfield, ME died unexpectedly Feb 5th, 2019. She was born 5/16/30 to Hervey and Madeline (McPhetres) Bean of Vienna , ME. Marie graduated  from Kents Hill High School and from the University of Maine-Orono with a degree in Home Economic Education. She moved to Fort Fairfield when she married James W, Ashby in 1952, residing there on Oak Lawn Farms until her death. She taught Home Economics at FFHS for several years, and later Elementary School for a few years. She taught home-making skills through the Co-Operative Extension Service, taught home and life skills to many kids as a 4-H leader. and taught Sunday School at the United Parish Church. Marie was a talented artist and taught Ceramics for many years, then established her home-based business Hone-B Dolls, making and selling authentic  reproductions of antique porcelain dolls, and taught doll-making  classes at numerous studios throughout the state. In later years, she still enjoyed her vegetable and flower gardens, maintained genealogy records for the Ashby family, as well as the Bean and McPhetres families. She also knit hundreds of garments for her daughters farm business. She attended the Mormon Church in Caribou. She was a sweet, talented, soft-spoken lady who will  be missed by those who knew her. Marie was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, James W. Ashby in 2005, her parents in 1954, and her brother Richard Bean in 2017.  She is survived by her 4 children: Beth, Katy, Randy and Glendon, her sister Mildred Bean Briggs of Dayville, Ct, and many nieces and nephews and their children. Burial will be a private service later in mid-July.
