Impeach Mills Rally Draws Crowd
Fort Fairfield Journal, July 1, 2020
AUGUSTA, Maine - On a beautiful sunny Saturday morning, June 13th, hundreds gathered in front of the capital building in Augusta to voice their utter dismay and complaints pointed at Maine’s Governor Mills. Even though attendance was smaller than previous rallies, this group came ready to be vocal and demand the governor to re-open Maine for normal operations of all businesses and social/religious sites. More than 250 “Impeach Mills” signs were distributed for attendees to take home for display in their yards and in their business windows.
In addition to speakers discussing how Maine’s governor has violated her oath of office, multiple business owners and out-of-work citizens voiced their complaints about unconstitutional edicts and orders coming from the governor’s office during the COVID scare.
Parents with children were witnessing how conducting a redress of grievances can be done in an orderly and peaceable manner while exercising their first amendment rights to assemble.
The attendees can be described as “concerned citizens hungry for the truth and desirous of justice to right the wrongs inflicted by Mills against the Maine citizenry”. In fact, over 20% of the attendees signed up for a free course on the Maine Constitution being offered through a consortium of groups involved with the rally. Spokesperson Phil Merletti for Take America Back, was on hand to address the group and pass out free Maine Constitutions. Several candidates and current legislators were also on hand.
Spokesperson Kevin Bushey, a candidate for Maine House District #151 against incumbent John Martin, who has been in Augusta closing in on 50 years, shared his observations regarding the event; “It is amazing to see how upset many of these folks are. Over 20% of attendees grabbed a free Maine Constitution and over 250 Impeach Mills signs, and that tells me people are seeking truth and justice. In fact, it reminds me of some of the Aroostook boys from 1839 during the Aroostook War--Maine citizens wanting to protect their lands, livelihoods, and border. I find it interesting the folks conducting the rally logistics come from the same lands as those who stood firm in 1839. I come from the Fish River basin area (Ashland-Portage), Representative John Deveau (Caribou- Battle of Caribou), and Representative Chris Johansen- the greater Houlton area). All three of us are military veterans and we understand what keeping an oath to the country and our constitutions entails and the implications when someone violates it. We intend to let Mainers know the seriousness of the oath a governor swears to defend the Constitutions and the consequences when violations occur.”
“Mills has certainly found herself the subject of multiple lawsuits, in hot water over first amendment breaches for not allowing churches to assemble and forcing citizens to stay home, not work, and mandatory social distancing and masks restrictions, all being unconstitutional and not voted on by any legislator, the only group who can make Maine law under Article IV, Part Third, Section 1 of the Maine Constitution.”
Rally organizers passed out the following letter to Impeach Mills (available online at https://www.mainerepublic.com/impeach-now/ ):
IMPEACH MILLS
“Where rights secured by the Constitution are involved, there can be no rule making or legislation which would abrogate them.” – Miranda vs. Arizona 384 US 436
A Governor’s Oath of Office: “I, Janet Mills, do swear, that I will support the Constitution of the United States and of this State, so long as I shall continue a citizen thereof. So help me God. I, Janet Mills, do swear, that I will faithfully discharge, to the best of my abilities, the duties incumbent on me as Governor of Maine according to the Constitution and laws of the State, so help me God.”
– Maine Constitution
Governor Mills Violated Her Oath and Oath of Office:
- Rights: by issuing executive orders, willfully and harshly, denying citizens 1st Amendment rights for gathering together for a common purpose, common assembly and the free exercise of religious events; threatening fines and/or (remove-> detainment) arrests for violating unlawful orders/edicts (wearing masks, social distancing, gathering, etc.)
- Religion: by issuing executive orders declaring churches/ministries as non-essential organizations and restricting religious gatherings, defying their GOD given unalienable rights.
- Money: by issuing executive orders that interferes with interstate commerce, contracts, and regulating whether a business is essential or not. All businesses and citizens are essential and so is their income for survival.
- Jobs: by issuing executive orders effectively placing thousands of Maine workers out of work, costing millions in lost revenues and unemployment claims and businesses and jobs that may not survive.
Her arrogance and unwillingness to include the co-equal Legislative and Judicial departments in managing the COVID crisis will only embolden Mills’ tyranny and to push Maine and its people into bankruptcy. Moody’s financial projects a $1.2 Billion budget shortfall for Maine by the fall.
This is not a question of forgiving her of her crimes or should we impeach, but rather:
Mills MUST be Impeached!
The next rally was scheduled for Saturday, June 27th, at noon, in front of the capital building. Citizens can request “Impeach Mills signs” at: https://www.mainerepublic.com/contact-us/impeach-mills-signs/
