The Roberts Trap is Sprung

One of the most overlooked aspects of the year just ended is the vindication of Chief Justice John Roberts -- a vindication that showed up as the national catastrophe known as ObamaCare got rolling.  Roberts may have also doomed Hillary Clinton's chance to live in the White House again... click here to read whole editorial

FFHS Golf Team Competes in State Class C Championship

Team Finishes 7th out 44 Teams

Fort Fairfield Journal, October 29, 2014

Fort Fairfield’s golf team, who has won the last six Aroostook league titles, travelled to Augusta two weekends ago to play in State Golf Team Championships held at Natanis Golf Club. Fort, competing in Class C with 44 other teams, finished 7th in the competition won by Winthrop High School. Fort players competing and their scores were Robbie Watson, 73, Jon Bernard 95, Carter Bruce 95 and Vince Campbell 115 for a team total of 378.

The team had a practice round on Friday, under ideal conditions, and for some it was their first time seeing the course. Golf coach Larry Gardner commented on the teams play. “The kids did a great job under the pressure of a State Championship match. To have groups of people following you around watching each and every shot can be a little intimidating for most players but our kids conducted themselves very well. It certainly is a great experience for all of them and for our two sophomores, Jon and Carter, as this will be another step to help them next year too! For our two seniors Robbie and Vince, they have had four years of competition here at Natanis and a memorable runner-up finish two years ago. We will miss both of them another year but they certainly have had a great opportunity to play a lot of golf and compete against some very good competition.”

Watson Places 3rd in Individual Championship

Robbie Watson, Fort’s number one golfer for four years and the defending Class C State Champion, finished 3rd last weekend in the State Individual Championships after shooting a 4 over 76 at the Natanis Golf Club. Watson was the only Fort qualifier and competed with 27 of the top golfers in the State. Logan Thompson of Mattanawcook Academy finished first with an even par 72 followed by Adam Hachey of Winthrop with a 73. Watson, playing in the last group with pre-tourney favorite Taylor Morang of Winthrop who shot a 68 in the team championships the week before, shot 40 on the front nine that included a lost ball and some missed opportunities but finished his round birdie, birdie to card his round of 76.

Coach Gardner commented on Robbie’s round and career stating, “Robbie had a good round today and I know he was capable of better and certainly wanted to defend his title but I am very proud of how hard he competed. He has matured so much from his freshman year and considering he is only a 16 year old senior his potential is limitless. Whatever college he attends will be very fortunate to have him, academically and athletically. He has the work ethic to take his game to the next level and whatever opportunity lies ahead for him I am confident he will be successful! It has been a pleasure to coach him, to work with him and compete with him in practice.”

By virtue of his top 4 finish in the Maine State Championship, Watson also qualifies for the New England Schoolboy Golf Championship next June in New Hampshire.
